In an effort to think outside the proverbial fish bowl, the folks at Studio Diip put their minds together and came up with a pretty ingenious way of empowering the office goldfish with the ability to drive its tank all around the office.
As far as we can tell, this is the first documented case of an actual self-driving car designed specifically for a fish. The vehicle moves by detecting the fish’s position using a standard webcam. A battery-powered Beagleboard and an Arduino-controlled robotic car complete the fish’s ride.
Specifically, the system uses the contrast of where the fish is within the tank against the bottom of the encasement to determine its position, whereupon commands are sent to the Arduino for moving the car in that specific direction.
The device is simplistic in its approach, but incredibly fun to watch. So check out the video below to see the Studio Diip goldfish cruising around in its new ride.
