A wearable that tracks your emotions

The 21st century mood ring.

New York-based startup Sentio Solutions unveiled a wrist tracker that has the ability to monitor emotions and stress levels throughout the day. The new wearable, called Feel, may just be the 21st century’s high-tech mood ring for your wrist.

At first glance, the device resembles the Fitbit Flex and other fitness trackers, but the Feel uses multiple sensors to record blood volume pulse, skin temperature, and galvanic skin response biometric data. The information is then relayed via Bluetooth to the Feel’s companion app, which in turn lets you view your emotional state to better understand what may be having an impact on it.

Factors such as the environment you’re in, the people you meet, spending a long day in the office, or engaging in a tough gym session can all impact what the device detects as your mood. Feel aims to help lower your stress levels and encourages you to take deep breaths, listen to music, or do yoga in order to relax.

The combination of the biometric measurements and activity tracking translate into a visualization on your smartphone that charts your entire day, allowing you to see when the stress levels peaked and what your mood was at different times.

“The first step in changing negative emotional habits is emotional awareness,” the co-founder and CEO George Eleftheriou said.

The tracker gives suggestions about how to reduce stress, including breathing and meditation exercises to calm you down. The tool also lets you set long-term emotion well-being goals and receive personalized tips to promote positivity.

“The second step in improving your emotions is receiving personalized recommendations,” Eleftheriou said.

Feel can detect extreme cases such as increased anger while driving, and will give you a real-time alert in vibration form, which alone can calm someone down. This is the first product that offers complex emotional analysis while also responding to you in a beneficial way.

Available for pre-order beginning this spring for $149, Feel is expected to start shipping by December and will be sold at retail for $199.
