Adapters modify 0.40-mm devices to PCBs

The customizable BGA Switch-A-Pitch adapters now enable 0.40-mm-pitch devices to be used on 1.00-mm PCBs. The adapters also enable the use of standard line and trace spacing down to 0.076 mm. The devices have 0.40-mm BGA landing pads on top with extra space for additional components, and the bottom is fitted with 1.00-mm BGA balls.

Switch-a-pitch boards are 1.57-mm-thick FR4 or Rogers 370 HR substrates, with 1/2-oz copper traces on both sides, non-solder-mask-defined pads finished with electroless nickel immersion gold and solder spheres of 63/37 lead/tin or lead-free SAC305 alloy. Device operating temperatures are to 105°C for FR4 or to 130°C for lead-free substrates. (Adapter with 32 positions, $6.50 ea/1,000 — 4 to 5 weeks ARO.)
