Adaptive equalizers extends video reach by up to 5x
Designed to automatically equalize video over the Cat 5 cable as well as the more traditional coaxial cable, the MegaQ family of single-channel adaptive equalizers delivers composite video images at distances over five times those currently possible, with a maximum length of 1 mile or 1.67 km. The family (ISL59601/2/3/4/5) enables cameras or video displays to be placed in remote areas, eliminating the need for repeaters and distribution hubs. Suitable for the security market or any application using composite video, the family requires no user interaction or adjustments, so video quality no longer depends on the installer.
Every device is automatically compatible with NTSC and PAL, color and monochrome, with no hidden caveats. Inputs are ac coupled and internally dc restored to maximize common-mode noise rejection. The output can drive 2 Vp-p into two source-terminated 75-Ω loads.
The ISL59605 compensates for high-frequency cable loss up to 60 dB at 5 MHz, as well as source amplitude variations up to ±3 dB. The equalizers require a single 5-V supply, consume only 500 mW, and are housed in compact 4 x 4 20-lead QFN packages. The MegaQ family is supported by demonstration boards: the ISL5960X-EVALZ, a compact, standalone demonstration board solution, and the ISL5960X-SPI-EVALZ, which provides user access to the SPI interface for signal monitoring. Several optional locking modes are available to help maintain lock in noisy environments. An optional serial interface on each device provides signal monitoring. (Ea/1,00: ISL59601, from $6.12; ISL59602, from $7.96; ISL59603, from $10.40; ISL59604, from $13.85; ISL59605, from $18.98, ISL5960X-EVALZ, $250; ISL5960X-SPI-EVALZ, $350 — available now.)
