ADI unveils open radio unit reference design

Analog Devices has launched a new integrated open radio unit reference design platform, aimed at bringing advanced radio designs to market faster.

Reducing time to market and freeing up radio designers to focus on innovation, Analog Devices, Inc. has launched an integrated open radio unit reference design platform that allows for hardware and software customization for macro and small cell radio units (RUs). The O-RU platform is a complete solution from the optical fronthaul to RF, leveraging technologies that meet advanced 4G and 5G RU requirements with support for all sub-6 GHz band and power variants, including multi-band applications.

Developed in collaboration with Intel Corp. and Radysis, the ADRV904x-RD O-RU reference design platform includes ADI’s fifth generation 8T8R RadioVerse SoC with an advanced digital front-end including field-proven digital pre-distortion (DPD), crest factor reduction (CFR), and channel digital up/downconversion (CDUC/CDDC).

ADI’s commercial O-RAN 7.2a IP stack is hosted on Intel’s Agilex 7 F-series FPGA, delivering high performance/watt. It supports LTE, 5G and NB-IoT.

The platform has been tested with Radisys’ Layer 2/3 software running on the Intel FlexRan server hardware for 8T8R macro deployment scenarios, said ADI.

The reference design platform is on display at Mobile World Congress (MWC) at ADI’s booth (Hall 2, 2B18). Visit ADI’s MWC 2023 web page for more information.
