Advanced Energy Industries, Inc. is presenting its latest innovations in power and monitoring at APEC 2024. These include the latest configurable power solutions, the Artesyn NeoPower NP08 configurable power supply and the FlexiCharge FC1500 configurable capacitor charger, as well as the eVerest RF Power Delivery System.
Advanced Energy also is participating in the APEC conference’s speaker program, presenting on powering commercial and horticultural lighting and delivering OCP-compliant power solutions to address AI processing workloads in data centers. The company’s subject matter experts will also chair industry sessions on datacenter and telecoms applications and high-voltage devices, components and systems.
Configurable power solutions
Configurable AC/DC power systems provide designers with greater flexibility and more design options to better meet their application requirements. They can be used in a range of applications, including medical and industrial equipment.
Two of Advanced Energy’s latest configurable power innovations are the NeoPower NP08 power supply, claiming best-in-class power density of 18 W/in3 with several digital communication options for multi-output industrial and medical power supplies, and the FlexiCharge FC1500, an all-in-one high-voltage 1.5 kJ capacitor charger and low-voltage power supply.
The NeoPower configurable power supply delivers optimized, application-specific power conversion in a small form factor with up to four times higher power density than conventional solutions, according to the company. The first device in the next-generation NeoPower family of AC/DC configurable industrial and medical power supplies is the NP08. It combines eight output power slots for fast and flexible configuration with a power density of 18 W/in3. Rated at up to 4,000 W, the NP08 also integrates communication capabilities with optional dongles that support all common digital communication protocols without the need for design changes or modifications.
Designed for ease of configuration in both series and parallel implementations, the NP08 can be programmed as a voltage or a current source and operates with low noise performance. The power supply is qualified to all applicable standards including the medical body floating (BF) safety rating and the SEMI F47 standard relating to immunity from voltage sag.
The NP08 also leverages the company’s ConnectedPower portfolio of interface options, which allows the NP08 to support RS-485 (MODBUS RTU), PMBUS and CANBUS (CANOPEN) protocols. This connectivity also makes the NP08 well-suited for IoT applications that require cloud-based monitoring and control.
The Excelsys FC1500 is a fully integrated, intelligent configurable capacitor charger and multiple-output power supply. The FC1500 delivers constant charge power and eliminates the need for multiple power supplies in medical laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy equipment.
Advanced Energy said that by combining a capacitor charger, AC/DC power and intelligent control, the FC1500 enables new ways for medical OEMs to design their laser and IPL systems.
For capacitor charging, the FC1500 can operate with large capacitance and low capacitance loads and deliver up to 1500-W constant power (1500 J/sec) with programmable charge voltages from 0 to 1000 VDC. By delivering 1500-W constant power over all charge voltages from 200 V to 1000 V, the FC1500 enables faster charging of capacitors when used at lower voltages in mixed technology systems, which helps reduce treatment times, the company said.
Other features include pulse-to-pulse stability with a repeatability of +/-0.2%, a programmable power limit and a current sense signal that enhances reliability by allowing the stress on the system capacitors to be accurately calculated.
For system power, the FC1500 offers a maximum power rating of 800 W and up to 10 isolated DC outputs. It also features field-configurable outputs to provide a plug-and-play approach to address specific application requirements and the option to connect outputs in series and parallel, which allows designers to support higher voltages and currents.
The FC1500 also incorporates intelligent analog and digital control via the PMBus with set and forget features and storage capabilities that enable faster time-to-market for medical OEMs. Compliant with IEC60601-1 (3rd edition) and IEC60601-1-2 (4th edition), the internal fan-cooled power supply is rated for Level 4 input surge protection and safety approved to an altitude of 3000 m. It has an MTBF of over 900,000 hours.
Advanced Energy will also display its new eVerest RF Power Delivery System. It supports the development of next-generation semiconductor etch and deposition processes with configurable multi-level pulsing, increased stability range and high-speed controls, the company said.
Designed to provide the precision plasma control required by Angstrom Era etch and deposition processes, the eVerest RF power generator platform offers output power from 3 to 10 kW and frequencies from 1 to 60 MHz, and delivers a wide, high-accuracy pulsing frequency up to 100 kHz.
The complete RF power delivery system features multiple options for impedance matching solutions and intelligent synchronization with other company innovations like the eVoS bias solution, which enables instantaneous or user-defined transition timing to optimize etch and deposition kinetics. The high-speed RF output response is under 200 µs, with pulse-state rise/fall times down to under 2 µs.
The RF power delivery platform also can be integrated with the ‘PowerInsight by Advanced Energy’ IoT data ecosystem, to give operators access to high-resolution, high-bandwidth embedded or system-level data. This data provides actionable insight that supports faster, more accurate process characterization and troubleshooting, and it reduces downtime by eliminating the need to access the plasma chamber for installation of an oscilloscope, the company said.
Advanced Energy is showcasing its latest AC/DC and DC/DC power supplies and sensing technologies for industrial, semiconductor, medical, IT, telecommunications and test and measurement applications at APEC 2024, booth #842.
