All SiC power module enables 99% efficiency

The CAS300M12BM2 all-SiC 300 A, 1.2 kV half-bridge power module is packaged in an industry-standard 62-mm housing. The new module reduces energy loss due to switching by more than five times compared to the equivalent silicon solution. This best-in-class efficiency of 99% enables for the first time all-SiC high power converters rated from 100-kW to 1-MW and suits induction heating, central solar inverters, and active front-end motor drive applications.

The half-bridge power module allows designers to reduce the amount of magnetic and cooling elements, deliver double the power density and lower system cost compared to silicon designs. It offers a simplified two-level topology that works at high frequencies, and eliminates the need for multi-level silicon-based solutions. The power module is available with multiple gate driver options and is pin compatible to standard 62-mm half-bridge modules, including IGBT modules rated at 450 A or more. It is available from distributors priced at $451 each for 1,000 units.
