All-silicon CMOS oscillators come in package, die/wafer forms

Available in wafer and package forms, the MM8102 and MM8202 all-silicon CMOS oscillators are claimed to be the only parts of their kind to offer quartz-crystal-level performance with a CMOS oscillator in both forms. These ICs eliminate quartz-based resonators and oscillators in consumer, computation, and storage applications with small-form-factor requirements and are suited for all generations of common serial wireline interfaces, including S-ATA, PCIe, USB 2.0, and USB 3.0.

In addition, the wafer-form availability of the product enables chip-on-board and multichip module assembly designs for significant space savings. The MM8102 offers a frequency accuracy of better than 300 ppm. Additional features include operating frequency up to 133 MHz and an active power consumption of 2 mA typ at 1.8 V.

A standby mode is also supported where the power consumption is reduced to less than 1 µA. Housed in 5 x 3.2- and 2.5 x 2.0-mm packages, these monolithic devices also offer excellent shock and vibration resistance as they generate frequencies electronically without any moving elements.
