Always want to talk to your dog? Now’s your chance

New Dog-to-English translator being developed by Indiegogo

When you’re watching Up—which I’m assuming you’ve all done, because you’re all human beings, with feelings—there comes a moment when you look at Doug with his amazing talking collar and go “I wish that was real. I would love to talk to my dog—or at least get them to stop eating my slippers. EVERY TIME.”

Well…

The proper response to this is OH MY GOD

Wish granted. Be excited.

Thanks to one of our favorite crowdsourcing websites, Indiegogo, a prototype of a translator for dogs called No More Woof is being developed by the Nordic Society for Invention and Discovery at a lab in Sweden. The project already hit its $10,000 goal and with 50 days to go in the campaign has almost reached $15,000. There’s still time to contribute to the translator, anywhere from a $5 supporting pledge to a $600 one, where you’d receive a prototype of your very own.

Please and thank you
While the project is still in the very early stages of development, the Nordic Society has apparently been able to translate several canine thoughts into understandable concepts and ideas, though there’s no complete sentences as of yet.

“Some of the most easily detected neural patterns are: 'I'm tired', 'I'm curious who that is' and 'I'm excited,'” says the developers. “To be completely honest, the first version will be quite rudimentary. But hey, the first computer was pretty crappy too.”

Your dog’s thoughts will be translated into audio, which will be blasted from the tiny gramophone attached to headset. We don’t have a sound sample of the speech yet, so we’ll just have to keep imagining Doug at the moment:

If you don't love him you're wrong

No More Woof does no harm to the dog and is completely safe to wear. There’s no word yet on whether the translator can be used to translate the neural patterns of other animals into English, but it’s definitely a project worth checking out.
