DIY projects can be challenging, but most of the time they leave the creator with a sense of accomplishment. Can you imagine the feeling of accomplishment after eight years building a $9.5 million McLaren sports car?

Jacek Mazur, a 48-year-old amateur mechanic from Poland can understand this feeling. It took him eight years to build a $9.5 million McLaren F1 using only spare parts and scrap- and it only cost him $36,000.

Mazur has been creating cars for about 20 years, his accomplishments include a Porsche and Lamborghini constructed from scrap as well.

It took a while, but the hobbyist is now riding around town in his replica McLaren. He’s done such a successful job with the restoration that he even gets asked what model the car is, as if nobody knew the difference.

The vehicle will not reach traditional McLaren speeds of 240 mph, but Mazur thinks that his Audi V8 engine and Mercedes brakes will get him to performance speeds of almost 200 mph.
Not too bad for a guy that made a luxury car from junk.
