The AMC1304  delta-sigma modulator is used in conjunction with isolated power supplies to prevent noise currents on a high common-mode voltage line from entering the local system ground and interfering with or damaging low voltage circuitry. 

The high electromagnetic field immunity of the device makes it an ideal ADC for situations demanding precision, as its output and input circuitry are separated by a capacitive double isolation barrier exhibiting high levels of resistance toward magnetic interference and providing isolation up to 7000 VPEAK  according to the DIN V VDE V 0884-10, UL1577 and CSA standards. 

As such, AMC1304 is optimized for direction connection to low voltage-level signal sources like shunt resistors, and supports outstanding AC and DC performance while providing a unique low input voltage range of ±50-mV that permits a major reduction in the power dissipation through the shunt.

What’s more, it can also take advantage of digital filters, such as the kind found on in Texas Instruments’ TMS320F2807x or TMS320F2837x family of products, to achieve 16 bits of resolution with a dynamic range of 81 dB (13.2 ENOB) at a data rate of 78 kSPS. All this is powered by an integrated low-dropout (LDO) regulator that enables unregulated input voltage between 4 V and 18 V (LDOIN). The isolated digital interface operates from a 3.3-V or 5-V power supply (DVDD).
