Analog Devices: High-speed optical receiver ICs integrate photodiode
The industry’s first commercially available 6- and 11-Gbit/s integrated optical receivers, the ADN3000-06 and ADN3000-11, consume only 65 mW from a single 3.3-V power supply while offering typical sensitivity of -19 dBm OMA (optical modulation amplitude) at 6 Gbits/s and 17 dBm OMA at 11 Gbits/s. The 0.84 x 0.68 11-pad die-packaged devices include the detector, transimpedance amplifier, and power monitor.
Manufactured on ADI’s XFCB high-speed complementary bipolar process on bonded SOI, the ICs significantly reduce system component count and cut power consumption by at least half, as compared to current solutions. The devices cost only $3.95 and $5.95 each in 1,000 quantities. They are wavelength agnostic and work across all key optical wavelengths, including 850, 1310, and 1550 nm. With their monolithic approach, they have a fully characterized interface between the photo detector and the transimpedance amplifier, so designers don’t have to worry about bond wires interactions.
