Analog scopes have intuitive user interface

Two analog real-time oscilloscopes, the 60-MHz TAS 455 and the 100-MHz
TAS 465, have an easy-to-use user interface that make their operation
virtually intuitive. Both scopes provide dual-channel operation and are
competitively priced with other scopes in their class. The user interface
is based on the one employed in the manufacturer's TDS series of digital
scopes, but is tailored to the analog scope user. In addition to their
well-balanced combination of knobs, buttons, and simple menus, the 400
series scopes include a broad array of features like autoset, save/recall
setups, cursors, and set-to-50% triggering that help the user to quickly
trigger on, display, and measure signals. A proprietary hybrid circuit
houses the entire acquisition system, including the vertical, horizontal,
and trigger functions for each input channel. This greatly reduces parts
count, thereby enhancing reliability. In fact, the manufacturer will
replace any TAS scope that breaks down within three years with a new
scope. Furthermore, because of the hybrid circuit, users can calibrate the
TAS 400 scope from the front panel, cutting calibration time by 50%. A
similar scope can have up to 40 manual calibration adjustments, while TAS
400 family scopes have less than 12. Both scopes are designed to meet
Class 3 MIL T-28800 standards and are UL certified. (TAS 455, $1,540; TAS
465, $2,195–stock.) Tektronix, Inc., Beaverton, OR Tek Direct
