ARM has new software design tools

ARM has announced a Compiler Qualification Kit to help developers achieve certification against functional safety standard IEC 61508 and industry-specific derivatives, such as ISO 26262 for automotive safety. While the industry relies more on third party certification of systems, or pre-certified compiler tool chains, ARM is offering developers a complementary approach by increasing transparency and investing significant effort to turn compiler documentation, error reports and other data into relevant and usable information by:

• Documenting the compiler through the eyes of the safety-related developer

• Imparting ARM's expertise to help developers make informed decisions

• Recommended tool flow for safety-related development

• Fault types and mitigation strategies

• Providing details of the tool chain that are difficult, or impossible, for the developer to see on their own

In addition to ARM's Compiler Qualification Kit, ARM's latest DS-5 Streamline performance analyser for MCUs puts functionality previously only available for application processors running Linux or Android systems in the hands of RTOS users. In recent benchmarks, the performance of an Android mobile gaming platform improved 52% using ARM's DS-5 Streamline Analyzer tool.
