Indiegogo teamed with Arrow Electronics a few months back in an aim to create a groundbreaking new crowdfund-to-production platform that brings new projects to the market. The partnership works to provide beneficial campaigns with necessary tools in what are often difficult months following funding.
Smart Armor is the first hardware startup to receive the push from Arrow and Indiegogo for its launch of the Smart Cube, a smart lock system that can be adapted to numerous different settings, including cabinets, drawers, and sheds. The device makes use of Bluetooth low-energy and can be set to automatically lock when a connected smart gadget is in close proximity.
The lock is controlled via an app that uses a four-digit password or fingerprint. As well as having the ability to be proximity-based, users can also receive notifications if someone is tampering with the lock.
“You can use it to keep kids away from alcohol, poisons, medicine, or guns, or keep your co-workers out of your files. It’s an internal locking system that communicates via Bluetooth. Your phone becomes the key,” said Smart Armor CEO and co-founder Justin Zastrow.
The official crowdfunding campaign already kicked off, with the Smart Cube devices available for a pledge of $49. Throughout the program, Arrow will offer up engineers, prototyping services, supply chain expertise, and help to navigate several pain points standing between an advantageous campaign and the final product release.
The success of the project should prove insightful into the Indiegogo and Arrow partnership, as well as whether external inputs from a manufacturing company can benefit crowdfunding hardware campaigns.
