The WM8958 audio hub solution is designed to enable HD audio in portable multimedia applications, such as smartphones, tablet computers, eBooks and navigation devices. This multichannel device provides 100-dB SNR during D/A playback, while its integrated stereo Class D/AB speaker driver and Class W headphone driver minimize power consumption during audio playback. As an example, during D/A to headphone playback, the device consumes 5.2 mW under optimal conditions.
The part features an audio-enhancement DSP that runs a multiband compressor, enabling significantly louder and clearer sound from small speakers without causing overload or damage. A smart digital microphone interface provides power regulations, a low-jitter clock, and decimation filters for up to four digital microphones, while active-ground-loop noise rejection and dc offset correction help prevent pop noise and suppress ground noise on the headphone outputs. Available in a 72-ball W-CSP package, the hub also offers active noise-reduction circuits and a dynamic range controller. ($3.75 ea/1,000 — available now.)
