Audio subsystem integrates programmable clock generator
Targeted at portable applications such as tablet computers, portable games, personal navigation devices, portable projectors, and speaker docks, the ACS42200 audio subsystem family is claimed to be the world’s first to integrate a programmable clock generator. Further it is claimed to minimize board space and reduces system cost through integration while providing time-to-market advantages by eliminating the need for multiple external crystals and oscillators that typically involve long lead times.
The family includes a low-power, high-fidelity codec featuring a DAC with 102-dB SNR and a THD+N better than –82 dB and an ADC with 90-dB SNR and THD+N of better than –80 dB. It also has four programmable system PLLs for internal and external timing, a DDX class-D speaker amplifier (1 W/ch(8Ω) or 2 W/ch(4Ω), 0.05% THD+N typ), a true capless headphone amplifier (40-mW output power at 16 Ω), and advanced built-in audio-processing capability for 3D, bass, and treble enhancement.
The ACS42200 family is available in a 68-TLA (dual-row QFN) 6 x 6-mm packages. It consists of the ACS422Axx and ACS422Dxx, which offer analog or digital microphone support, respectively, and the ACS422MAxx and ACS422MDxx, which are the mono speaker amplifier versions. (ea/10,000; ACS422Axx/ACS422Dxx, $1.35; ACS422MAxx/ACS422MDxx, $1.20 — samples available now.)
