Suited for cell phones, PMPs, and more, the MAX9879 stereo audio subsystem combines a high-efficiency high-power stereo Class D speaker amplifier, a DirectDrive stereo headphone amplifier, and an ultra-low-noise analog bypass switch in a 30-bump UCSP package. The part delivers 715 mW of output power from a 3.7-V supply into an 8-Ω load with 88% efficiency.
The device eliminates the need for large dc-blocking capacitors and the output filters typically required by Class D amplifiers. Additional features include input mixing, volume control, comprehensive click-and-pop suppression, and a flexible user-defined input architecture with preamplifier gain settings.
