Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. unveiled two series of surface-mount, automotive-grade power LEDs in PLCC-2 and ultra-compact MiniLED packages. The VLMx335xx and VLMx235xx series deliver high brightness and a maximum drive current up to 50 mA thanks to the latest advanced AllnGaP technology and smallest chip size available, according to the company, targeting automotive, industrial, and consumer applications.

The AEC-Q101-qualified LEDs offer low thermal resistance down to 400 K/W with power dissipation of 130 mW, enabling the high drive current, said Vishay. The devices offer an ESD-withstand voltage up to 2 kV in accordance with JESD22-A114-B and are compatible with preconditioning per JEDEC Level 2a.
The VLMx235xx’s MiniLED package (2.3 × 1.3 × 1.4 mm) and the VLMx335xx’s luminous intensity of 1,400 mcd make them well-suited for a variety of applications, including traffic lights, automotive lighting (interior and exterior), LCD switches, and indicators and backlighting for audio/video equipment.
The LEDs come in super-red, red, amber, soft orange, and yellow. The lead frame is embedded in a white thermoplast with an inside reflector filled with clear epoxy. They also feature a ±60° angle of half-intensity, a forward voltage down to 1.8 V, and a luminous intensity ratio per packing unit of ≤1.6. The devices are categorized for luminous intensity and color per packing unit.
The LEDs, available in 8-mm tape, are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green , a company designation in response to global environment-related directives.
The VLMx335xx and VLMx235xx series will be available in the fourth quarter of 2018 with a lead time of six weeks. Pricing for U.S. delivery starts at $.047 per piece.
