Avago Technologies, today announced a demonstration in collaboration with Supermicro (NASDAQ: SMCI) and VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW) of a virtual hybrid cloud that offers the cost benefits of a public cloud while delivering the security of a private cloud. Designed for multiple workloads that require high speed access to storage including VDI, Tier 2 production, and dev/test, the cost-effective solution is enabled by the combination of Avago and Supermicro enterprise-class server hardware running VMware Virtual SANTM software.
As developers strive to increase productivity, having improved access to more sharable and scalable storage has become critical. A virtual hybrid cloud allows IT organizations to easily deploy a storage solution that can deliver Infrastructure as a Service from a dev/test site and then migrate to a Software-Defined Data Center when production-ready.
“The virtual hybrid cloud solution using VMware Virtual SAN is based on industry-supported standards and enables an enterprise-class infrastructure that delivers the scalable, high performance virtualized data center storage needed for today’s developers,” said Gaetan Castelein, senior director, product management, Software-Defined Storage at VMware. “It also provides an easy migration path while offering IT departments with an affordable, manageable way to support dev/test and other application environments in the cloud.”
“The demonstration at VMworld 2014 this week showcases a powerful solution for developers to gain fast access to scalable storage without increasing the complexity or cost of the storage itself,” said Jas Tremblay, vice president of marketing, Data Center Solutions Group, Avago. “The virtual hybrid cloud model delivers all the benefits and economies of scale that are greater than either a private or public cloud could do alone.”
“Supermicro Green Computing solutions offer the widest range of Server Building Blocks optimized for deploying highly scalable virtualization infrastructure,” said Don Clegg, vice president of marketing and business development at Supermicro. “Our collaboration efforts with Avago and VMware are delivering hybrid cloud solutions that offer maximized compute, I/O performance and density in extremely energy efficient platforms. With ease of deployment, manageability and support our combined solutions deliver maximum performance per watt, per dollar, per square foot, reducing overall total cost of ownership.”
The live demonstration will be shown at the Supermicro booth #2217 at VMworld 2014 this week. VMware will also be demonstrating the test/dev on VSAN use case at booth #1229. about virtual hybrid cloud solutions and the benefits they provide to developers, read the solution brief posted by VMware.
