Avago Technologies Ships High-Linearity, One and Two- Watt Amplifiers for WiMAX and Next-Generation Cellular Networks
New Amplifiers Drive Best-in-Class Power and Performance Levels with Industry-Low Current Consumption and No RF Matching Required
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 30, 2008
Avago Technologies today announced one-watt and two-watt families of high-performance power amplifiers designed for next generation cellular and WiMAX infrastructure applications. The company is a leading supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications. Avago expands its product offering with the ALM-31122/-31222/-31322 family of one-watt base station power amplifiers. Available in an ultra compact size and with no RF matching requirements, this series of amplifiers outperforms its competitors by offering very high linearity and exceptional power added efficiency (PAE) at 400 mA typical current consumption levels. Avago’s new power amplifiers support for cellular (GSM, CDMA, WCDMA, CDMA2000 and TD-SCDMA) and WiMAX frequencies.
Designed to support applications from 750 MHz to 3.9 GHz, the ALM-31×22 power amplifiers have built-in active bias circuitry and no RF matching components which simplifies the customer’s product design and shorten time to market. Housed in a miniature 5.0 x 6.0 x 1.1 mm, 22-pin molded chip-on-board package, the ALM-31×22 is ideal for compact pico or femto-cell base station applications.
At typical biasing conditions of 5V and 400 mA, Avago’s ALM-31122 delivers superior performance with 31.6 dBm of output power (P1dB), 47.6 Bm of third order intercept point (OIP3) and 15.6 dB gain at 900 MHz. The ALM-31222 delivers an equally impressive performance of 31.5 dBm P1dB, 47.9 dBm OIP3 and 14.9 dB gain at 2 GHz; and the ALM-31322 delivers 31 dBm P1dB, 47.7 dBm OIP3 and 13.2 dB gain at 3.5 GHz.
Avago also announced today a family of high-linearity two-watt power amplifiers, beginning with the ALM-32220. Similar to the one-watt power amplifiers, the two-watt power amplifiers also have built-in active bias and require no RF matching components. Built to optimally support 1.7 GHz to 2.7 GHz applications, the 800 mA current consumption for the ALM-32220 gives it a best in class ranking among similar two-watt devices on the market. The new power amplifier delivers an exceptional performance of 34.4 dBm of output power (P1dB), 50 dBm of OIP3 and 14.8 dB gain at 2 GHz. The ALM-32220 is housed in a miniature 7.0 x 10.0 x 1.1 mm, 20-pin molded-chip-on-board package. Two additional two-watt amplifiers will be introduced in June, they are the ALM-32120, which supports 750MHz to 1GHz, and the ALM-32320 which is optimized for 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz frequencies.
Pricing and Availability
In 1,000-9,999 quantities, pricing for Avago’s one-watt ALM-31×22 begins at $3.75, whereas pricing for the two-watt ALM-32220 begins at $7.19. These new power amplifiers are currently available through Avago’s direct sales and worldwide distributor partners.
