Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas, a business region of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), is now offering Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ line of Linear Resonance Actuators (LRAs), vibration motors that provide a tactile (haptic) sensation when a user interacts with a touchscreen.

One of the emerging technologies in the field of touchscreens, haptic feedback has become increasingly popular in consumer products such as smartphones, portable gaming and tablets. According to Gartner Inc.’s March 27, 2013 report, “Competitive Landscape: Touch Controllers Evolve into a System Solution, Worldwide, 2013,” by Adib Carl Ghubril, this market is on track to grow in 2014. The report said, “Gartner forecasts 30 percent growth in 2013 for the touch controller market, a rate that will be maintained through 2014 but will slow again in 2015 and will reach a plateau in 2016.” As touchscreens become more present in the automotive, industrial and medical markets, the growth opportunity for haptic feedback applications also expands.

“Whenever you receive a phone call and your phone vibrates, you’re experiencing basic haptics. Be it through advanced medical simulators, smart cars, or large multi-touch casino game displays, there’s plenty of room for this technology to grow into the industrial markets Avnet serves,” said Alex Iuorio, senior vice president, supplier management and business development for Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas. “Our partnership with Samsung Electro-Mechanics uniquely positions Avnet to help customers take advantage of this cutting-edge technology and create more user-friendly products.”

“Avnet’s global footprint, design chain and supply chain capabilities make it the ideal partner in creating demand for this technology,” said Wesley Roh, executive director of sales and marketing, Americas & European Mobile Sales Group, Samsung Electro-Mechanics. “Their teams are trained to offer the technical support needed to quicken time to market for haptic solutions. Moreover, Avnet’s extensive portfolio of haptic drivers and IP&E value-added services can help customers easily build a complete haptic solution for their products.”
