Avnet Executive Plays to the Alternative Technologies Crowd at 2010 IPC EMS Management Council Meeting
The Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas (EMA) business region of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT) announces that Ed Smith, president of Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas, will be presenting at the IPC EMS Management Council Meeting. In conjunction with the IPC APEX Expo, this event will take place in Las Vegas on April 7, 2010.
Smith, a 20-year-plus industry veteran who runs the EMA business region, will present “What It Takes to Be a Player: Alternative Technologies and the EMS Industry” – focusing on the untapped opportunities for high-brightness light emitting diodes (HBLEDs). Smith’s presentation will identify the key design opportunities for HBLEDs, as well as address supply chain and resource allocation challenges involved in implementing this technology in numerous sectors.
“The advent of HBLEDs has presented us with similar challenges to those associated with FPGAs and microcontrollers 25 years ago. Customers are clamoring to use these technologies in a wide range of applications, but the knowledge surrounding them is scarce,” said Ed Smith, president of Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas. “With Avnet’s position in the center of the technology supply chain – hopefully we can shed some light on the subject.”
