Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), has released the Industrial MicroZedSystem-on-Module (SOM), the MicroZed Cost-Optimized (CO) SOM, and the MicroZedSingle Board Computer (SBC). This expands on the existing MicroZed portfolio, which previously consisted of MicroZed 7010 and MicroZed 7020 SOMs, as well as the MicroZed 7010 Evaluation Kit. The evaluation kit targets new users and includes additional licensing, documentation, and tutorials. The remainder of the MicroZed portfolio is intended to be designed into developers’ final products.
All boards in the MicroZed portfolio are based on the Xilinx Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC. The Industrial MicroZed consists of both 7010 and 7020 versions and is designed for safe and reliable operation under extreme temperatures (-40° to +85°C). The MicroZed CO SOM is based on the original MicroZed SOM and is optimized for exclusive use with a carrier. In contrast, the MicroZed SBC is designed to support standalone operation, including the capability to self-power expansion connectors for placement of application-specific expansion modules. Due to its small form factor, MicroZedSBC is a great option for engineers designing a small, Zynq-based embedded product. The MicroZed SBC is offered in both 7010 and 7020 versions and targets both commercial and extended temperature grades.
Target applications for MicroZed include general Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC evaluation and prototyping, embedded SOM applications, embedded vision, test and measurement, motor control, and software-defined radio.
“MicroZed allows designers to start with a single platform and grow with it as they progress in their SoC development and learning process,” said Jim Beneke, vice president of global technicalmarketing for Avnet Electronics Marketing. “By meeting industrial standards, MicroZed can be used in weather stations, data loggers, airplanes, factory automation — and many other applications that need to withstand harsh environments. As an SBC, MicroZed can be adopted into compact embedded
environments.”
