There are dozens to choose from—which rank best among the rest?


Batman is without a doubt one of the most resourceful superheroes ever. That’s because the man behind the mask, Bruce Wayne, is a genius, having engineered some of the most finely tuned gadgets, gizmos, and weaponry to ever grace the comic book page, television set, and silver screen.

Similar to our list last month on the best James Bond gadgets, we went ahead and whittled down Batman’s technology to the best of the best. The only difference here is that where Bond had dozens of gadgets to get him out of various situations, Batman has gadgets for all different scenarios. So, rather than list the 5 best Batman gadgets ever and risk starting a riot because we didn’t include Batarangs or Bat-goggles, we went ahead and created categories and selected the best of the rest that way.

With that legal disclaimer out of the way, Batman’s best gadgets include:

Tools for Access / Maneuverability

Bat-Claw: Similar to his grappling gun, the Batclaw has a gripping claw attached to a line and is used to pull objects toward the caped crusader.

Bat-Cuffs: Handcuffs made of a lightweight, diamond-impregnated nylon, overtop a steel core; they slip on easy, but are very difficult to remove.

Cryptographic Sequencer: Remotely accesses power boxes to shut down electric fences.

Grappling Gun: Has an anchoring device that shoots into the air and pulls Batman vertically up a surface.

Line Launcher: Shoots steel cables out from both sides; used to rappel across large gaps.

Lock Pick: Tools for breaking-and-entering.

Sonic Bat-Beacon: An electronic device that puts out high-frequency calls to attract nearby bats.

Portable Weaponry

Batarangs: Bat-shaped, boomerang-like throwing weapons.

Bat-Darts: A specialized form of tranquilizer darts.

Bat-Lasso: To be thrown around feet of fleeing opponent(s); Batman’s gloves include button that electrifies the rope when necessary.

Bat-Sword: Collapsible, light saber-like device that is sharp enough to cut through steel objects.

Flash-Bang Grenades: Grenades that temporarily impair the enemy’s visionary and auditory capabilities.

Surveillance

Bat-Tracer: Tracking device used to locate enemies.

Bat-Camera: Miniature camera with recorder.

Night Vision Bat-Goggles: Built into Batman’s cowl; capable of seeing thermal output in dimly lit areas.

These are, obviously, very specific gadgets so before you write that we neglected to include Batman’s suit, utility belt, bat mobile, and bat cave, please note that they all fall under “Would necessitate an entirely separate article to cover.”
