The ISL9222A battery charger detects auxiliary and external power connections in mobile devices. The single-cell Li-ion battery charger IC incorporates a charger and digital logic (OR gate) into a single chip. It suits applications that require overvoltage protection, test fixture power detection, or reverse blocking.
The charger accepts an input voltage up to 28 V, eliminating the need for an OVP circuit, and is disabled when the input voltage exceeds the overvoltage protection threshold (typically 7.2 V). The charge current is user-programmable with an external resistor. When the battery voltage is lower than 2.55 V, the charger preconditions the battery with 20% of the programmed charge current. The device also features a thermal foldback function to protect the charger from overtemperature conditions. ($1.40 ea/1,000 — available now.)
