Battery sensing ICs suit automotive systems

The ZSSC1750 and ZSSC1751 battery sensing and battery management ICs are automotive-qualified, data-acquisition system basis chips (SBCs). The chips include high-precision, 24-bit sigma-delta analog-to-digital converters for simultaneous measurement of battery voltage and current as well as internal and external temperatures. They feature a voltage channel input measurement range from 3.6 to 28.8 V with an accuracy of ±60 ppm of full-scale.

The battery management ICs provide power-saving operating modes, including an autonomous periodic wake-up from sleep mode that can run self-contained. Once a fault condition, such as exceeding a predefined current, voltage or temperature threshold occurs, these SBCs will automatically wake up and alert a higher-level controller. Both SBCs are controlled via an SPI interface. The ZSSC1750 provides an additional communication option using a physical LIN interface.
