Bluetooth module targets low-power IoT

Infineon’s CYW20822 Bluetooth module with low-energy and long-range support targets low-power IoT and consumer electronics devices.

Infineon Technologies AG has introduced a lower cost Bluetooth module for low-power IoT and consumer devices. The new CYW20822-P4TAI040 delivers Bluetooth low-energy and long -range (LE-LR) support for a wide range of IoT and consumer electronics applications.

Infineon said the CYW20822-P4TAI040, part of the AIROC wireless connectivity family, provides the right combination of low power and high performance to support Bluetooth LE-LR use cases including industrial IoT applications, smart home, asset tracking, beacons and sensors, and medical devices.

Infineon’s pre-certified modules are optimized for cost, size, power and range. The CYW20822-P4TAI040 module is Bluetooth SIG qualified along with USA FCC, Europe CE, Japan MIC and Canada ISED certifications.

The CYW20822-P4TAI040 uses the latest Bluetooth 5.0 technology to support 1M, 2M and Coded PHY (long range). The module leverages Infineon’s power management techniques to optimize energy consumption to extend battery life in portable devices. It offers very low active power consumption of 1.3 mA (Rx @ -95 dBm) and 3 mA (Tx @ 0 dBm), along with a sleep current consumption of 2 μA with 32 KB RAM retention.

The Bluetooth LE module also helps accelerate time-to-market deployment for Bluetooth-enabled IoT solutions with zero-programming. The module is pre-programmed via the EZ-Serial firmware to eliminate customer programming, Infineon said.

The CYW20822-P4TAI040 Bluetooth LE module measures 10.5 × 20.2 × 2.3 mm. It  is currently sampling.
