The 1-MHz LTC3539 and 2-MHz LTC2529-2 current-mode synchronous boost dc/dc converters have an output disconnect and integrated soft-start. They have a 2-A internal switch that delivers 5.25-V output voltages from an input voltage range of 0.70 V at startup, (0.5 V when running) to 5 V. The devices are suitable for Li-ion/polymer or single/multicell alkaline or NiMH applications.
The regulators deliver up to 900 mA of continuous output current (at 3.3 V) from dual alkaline cells or 900 mA of continuous output current (at 5 V) from a single-cell Li-ion battery. They have internal switches with an RDS(on) of 0.09-Ω (n-channel) and 0.125-ω (p-channel) delivering efficiencies to 94%. The output disconnect feature allows the output to be completely discharged during shutdown. ($2.50 ea/1,000 — available now.)
