Boost regulator offers output disconnect

The LTC3125 is a 1.6-MHz, current-mode, synchronous-boost dc/dc converter with a programmable average input current limit. Its internal 1.2-A switches deliver 5.25-V output voltages from a 1.8 to 5.5-V input voltage range, suiting it for Li-ion/polymer or multicell alkaline/NiMH applications.

The boost converter provides up to 500-mA continuous output current (at 5 V) from a 3.3-V input. The average input current limit can be programmed between 200 and 1,000 mA with ±5% accuracy. The input current enables charging of supercapacitors or ultracapacitors in battery-backup systems. It is available in an 8-lead 2 x 3-mm DFN package. ($2.25 ea/1,000 — available now.)
