Buck converter family raises the bar for efficiency, power density

The highly integrated EN6300 family of voltage-mode synchronous buck dc/dc converters achieve 113 W/in.2 power density. The family includes the 3-A EN6337QI, 4-A EN6347QI, 8-A EN6360QI, and 12-A EN63A0QI. These switch-mode converters are power systems on a chip (PowerSoC), achieving up to 96% efficiency and integrating the inductor, power switches, gate drive, controller, and loop compensation.

The buck converters feature a 2.375 to 6.6-Vdc input voltage range. They deliver up to 5% higher efficiency, 83% circuit board area reduction, and up to a 68% cost reduction compared to alternative solutions, while operating at full load over the –40° to 85°C operating temperature range. The devices meet the efficiency, noise, voltage and transient requirements of applications powering FPGAs, microprocessors, DSPs, ASICs, and other dc/dc POL devices. Key POL applications include blade servers, RAID storage systems, LAN/SAN adapter cards, wireless base stations, industrial automation, test and measurement, embedded computing, communications, and multifunction printers.
