Cable equalizer extends video reach, cuts power
The LMH0394 serial digital interface (SDI) cable equalizer extends the reach of broadcast video signals by 40% to 200 m at 3 Gbits/s while using only half the power (115 mW typ) of comparable chips. The chip enables 400-m reach for standard definition, and it includes automatic power-down that, without an input signal, reduces consumption by 85%.
The IC’s typical output jitter is less than 0.15 UI up to 100 m, 0.20 UI up to 140 m, and 0.40 UI up to 180 m at 3G data rates. It has LVDS drivers with programmable offset, amplitude, and output de-emphasis and comes in a 4 x 4-mm 16-pin LLP package. A dual version is available. ($21.95 ea/1,000 — production October.)
