Cables aim to deliver the lowest insertion loss before, after installation

Designed for use in aircraft, the GORE-FLIGHT Microwave Assemblies, 6 Series are lightweight cable solutions that are said to deliver the lowest insertion loss before and after installation to ensure reliable performance for the life of the system. The robust construction of these assemblies is designed to reduce total costs by withstanding the challenges of installation, thereby reducing costly production delays, field service frequency, and the need for purchasing replacement assemblies. The assemblies are lightweight to improve fuel efficiency and increase payload.

Physical damage to the cable assembly during installation can result in impedance changes. Compared to alternative airframe assemblies, 6 Series maintain a consistent impedance of 50 ± 1 Ω, providing excellent VSWR characteristics and eliminating insertion loss stack-up issues when assemblies are cascaded or routed through airframe bulkheads. The series has proven compliance with MIL-T-81490 requirements and has been subjected to special simulation testing that replicates the conditions a cable assembly experiences while being routed during installation in an aircraft.
