Calculators expand HP48 functionality
The HP48G and -GX technical calculators replace the -48S and -SX models
(see Electronic Products, Jan. 1991, Product of the Year, p. 29) with RAM
expanded to 128 Kbytes in the GX, and added functions, including 3D
graphs. Two expansion slots can hold up to 4 Mbytes of programs or extra
memory. The -G version has 32 Kbytes RAM and no expansion slots. Functions
can ask for operands via dialogue boxes. The traditional HP stack entry
also works. Sparcom offers a line of engineering software on ROM cards
for the 48GX. Among the cards is an electrical engineering pack with over
350 equations, and an electrical engineering data library. Other fields of
engineering, as well as math, chemistry, physics, and navigation all have
cards. The company also offers RAM cards. (48GX, $350; upgrade from SX,
$195; Sparcom packs, $99 ea; Sparcom RAM cards, from $199–available now.
