Camera vs Smartphone

column gifYou've probably noticed that whenever a news event occurs today, someone has captured the event using a personal device like a smartphone or pocket video camera. It's not surprising considering the fact that most of us carry around some device with an image sensor embedded in it.

What you may wonder, however, is just how the image sensors in say, a tablet, a smartphone, and a pocket camera differ? Of course, if you wanted to really find out, you could spend time gathering spec sheets on the various devices you wanted to compare and lining them up their data to make comparison possible.

However, there's now a beta version on line of an easier way to do just that. Called simply Camera Image Sensor, the site provides a basic explanation of how camera imaging is done and the different types of technologies used. Then it let's you click through to a page where you can select different types of devices and compare their specs.

As I mentioned, this is a beta version and not all brands and models of devices are listed yet. But it shows promise, and hopefully it will grow with time.
