Here’s a fun game — Andy Ellison, an MRI technologist at Boston University Medical School, Center for Biomedical Imaging, has put together a fantastic blog called InsideInsides, which he uses to post GIFs of random objects scanned with his Philips 3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine.
The results are as much mesmerizing as they are disturbing.

It’s an interesting use of a rather advanced form of technology. For those who’ve heard of an MRI machine before, but aren’t exactly sure what it does, it’s a medical imaging technique used by professionals in radiology to investigate the anatomy and function of the body, without having to open an individual up via surgery. The technology accomplishes this by combining strong magnetic fields and radio waves to form images of the body.
It’s a popular technique used in hospitals all across the world for the purpose of medical diagnosis, determining the stage of disease, and for follow-up analysis, all without having to expose an individual to dangerous ionizing radiation.
And now, it’s also been used to scan food.
