With a clam shell style ZIF socket on top and a J-lead type surface-mount foot on bottom, the CA-SO28E-Z-J-01 SOIC carrier adaptor makes it easy to probe and quickly switch ICs on a board with only SMT lands. 
The adapter’s SOIC J-lead type SMT foot (which is a true emulation of a SOIC package) solders to a target board SOIC land pattern with simple hand soldering procedure. The top part of the adapter plugs onto the foot through a mini-grid-array interface assembly with gold-plated pins; the gold plating combined with short trace lengths provide high signal integrity. Other top and bottom interfaces are also available. The adapter is priced at $365 ea / 110, and component parts are available individually.
