Cavium Networks Works with Broadcom to offer Comprehensive Set of Intelligent Switching Reference Designs

Cavium Networks has announced a comprehensive set of reference designs targeted at intelligent switching and broadband applications. These reference designs will utilize Cavium’s market-leading OCTEON Multi-core MIPS64® processor family along with Broadcom’s widely adopted enterprise class StrataXGS® and home/SMB ROBOSwitch™ Gigabit Ethernet switches, and FASTPATH® networking software. The reference designs aim to reduce engineering development cost and time-to-market for intelligent enterprise switches, Layer 4+ switches, and SOHO/SMB routers.

Today many OEM customers use a combination of Cavium’s OCTEON processors and Broadcom’s switches in their designs. Each OEM customer has to independently perform hardware and software integration and validation of the combined Cavium and Broadcom solution. This hardware and software integration consumes precious research & development resources, increases the engineering development time, and may not optimally use all of the advanced capabilities available in Cavium’s OCTEON processors and Broadcom’s StrataXGS and ROBOSwitch families.

The scalable set of reference designs using Cavium and Broadcom silicon addresses the need for pre-integrated, optimized, and validated reference designs addressing enterprise and SMB/home markets.
