CES set to open on Wednesday – some previews

The CES pre-opening press event “CES Unveiled” featured 160 companies with new products to show off. As you can see in the photo below, it was a busy, crowded place – and these are just members of the press!

Of all those companies, I choose three of them to share with you – nearly at random, if you must know.

Aspenta is a U.S. based company that offers GPS location modules. The significant difference with Aspenta is, when you buy a module from them (~$100) you get a subscription for around $3/month that provides nearly world-wide coverage via cellular connection (first year's annual service fee is included). They are a fully-integrated mobile operator with proprietary technology enabling worldwide connectivity for m2m devices. In some models, if cellular connection is not available, location tracking continues, and the data is uploaded when connection is restored.

The device allows you to know the exact location of your children or elderly relatives or vehicles or valuable items of most any kind. The battery operated modules do need to be recharged every 1 to 7 days, depending on module size.

Lenovo ’s ThinkPad Stack computer system was introduced last year. It combines four accessories (Bluetooth speaker, USB power bank, USB 3.0 HDD, and WiFi access point) into one stacked system for portability. The configurable ThinkPad Stack accessories allow for mix and match stacking. And now Lenovo has added a projector to the system.

The ThinkPad Stack Mobile Projector offers a 150 lumens, 720p resolution, DLP solution with wireless connection and a battery for 2 hours playback. It has a 1 W speaker, a project tilt mode and T shape correction when stacking, and a light embedded OS to access HDD or USB storage directly.

The Project Zero Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor from Omron Healthcare is a clinically-tested, highly accurate heart health tool that will be available this year – after completing FDA trials. It works with the OMRON Connect App which tracks your activity and personal health history, offers insights to improve your numbers, and can connect with your doctor as a tool for more insightful care.

The portable wireless design is free of tubes and wires. This device's Bluetooth Smart technology also allows users to sync and store readings to a smartphone or tablet.
