The ISL9220 battery charger is based on a switch-mode topology that ensures high operating efficiency and low power dissipation for one and two-cell Li-ion and Li-polymer based portable devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. It uses a synchronous pulse-width modulation technology with integrated MOSFETs.
The battery charger IC has a 1.2-MHz switching frequency that enables the use of small external inductors and capacitors. It provides up to 2-A charge current, and charge voltage accuracy is 0.5%. A programmable safety timer terminates charging if the battery fails to charge in the programmed period.
