The RHC2512 (RHC2512JT100R) 2-W 2512 size chip resistor is said to have lower heat rise compared to other high-power chip resistors available. The part's design optimizes materials, interconnect design, and manufacturing processes to lower the self-heating and hot spots of the part by 30°C. The part's 2-W specification is derated starting from 70°C.
The resistor comes in 0.1-Ω to 1-MΩ versions, with a TCR of ±100 ppm/ºC, and 1% and 5% tolerances. Heat rise is also affected by conductor trace width, PCB copper thickness, solder pad size, land patterns under the solder mask, size of PCB vias, air movement, and heat sinks.
