Chip yields true single-chip step-motor control

The L6470 dSPINT monolithic stepper motor controller IC provides a unique control system for true 1/128-step resolution. It includes a dual 0.28-Ω RDS(on) DMOS full bridge with all power switches equipped with an accurate on-chip current-sensing circuitry suitable for nondissipative current control and overcurrent protections.

Operating at 8 to 45 V, the chips can provide 7.0-A output peak current and 3.0 A rms. Motor-control calculations are implemented in hardware, simplifying software design by requiring only acceleration, deceleration, speed, and target position commands from an application MCU. The device comes in a thermally enhanced HTSSOP28 package, with other packages optional. ($4.50 ea/1,000 — available now.)
