Class D audio amp enables 1.5-W constant output power
Maintains loud volume across battery range to enhance portable audio performance
Conventional Class D amplifiers are designed to provide high output power that is dependent on battery voltage. As the battery discharges, the maximum output power decreases, causing reduced volume and increased distortion.
Suited for portable applications, the TPA2014D1 filter-free Class D audio amplifier with an integrated boost converter addresses the need for louder volume and higher output power from the speakers by providing up to 1.5 W across an 8-Ω load, ensuring that volume is maintained even when the battery discharges to its minimum voltage.
Additional features include an overall efficiency of 85%, a supply range of 2.5 to 5.5 V, and a PSRR of 91 dB. Housed in a QFN and WCSP packages, the TPA2014D1 also includes an integrated PLL, which synchronizes the Class D amplifier and boost converter clocks in order to eliminate potential audible beat frequencies. (Ea/1,000: QFN package, $1.32; WCSP, $1.40 — QFN package now, WCSP package, end of May.)
