This fall engineers, designers, buyers and academics from around the globe will gather at the DE Stephens Convention Center for CWIEME Chicago, the Americas' largest dedicated exhibition for the coil winding, insulation and electrical manufacturing industries. Now in its 11th year, the show — happening September 30 to October 1 — has grown both in size and stature, covering everything from coil winding machines, permanent magnets and laminations, to electrical steels, bobbins and electric motor testing equipment.
In particular, CWIEME Chicago 2014 is expecting a significant increase in attendance by Mexican decision-makers from the maquiladora zones bordering the US. The organizers also anticipate a rise in Latin American representatives at the show. Top exhibitors attracting these visitors will include Cobham, CST America, Tempel Steel, Eurotranciatura, Hidria-Rotomatika, R. Bourgeois, Infolytica, Elantas, Miles Platts and Rea Magnet Wire.
“Due to its location in one of the USA’s most important automotive areas, CWIEME Chicago has traditionally been seen as an electric motor manufacturing event,” says Haf Cennydd, portfolio director at i2i Events Group, the company behind the show. “But it has a lot to offer the consumer electronics and energy transmission and distribution industries too – this year more than ever.”
Last year CWIEME Chicago was sponsored by the Transformer Association of America (TTA), which hosted a series of round table events and workshops that proved popular with visitors and exhibitors alike. This year TTA will build on its previous success with an enlarged transformer zone, highlighting the quality and expertise of transformer component manufacturers from the USA, Canada and Mexico.
“Interactivity is very important at the show,” continues Cennydd. “People can read product information anywhere, but where else can you see equipment in motion and directly compare it with competitor models? CWIEME Chicago will be packed with live machinery demonstrations from our 160 exhibitors — from start to finish.”
Content is king
In addition to securing new customers and suppliers, the CWIEME exhibition series offers participants an unmissable opportunity to network with industry peers and discuss the latest technological and legislative developments. A free seminar program, led by the industry’s foremost experts, as well as additional breakfast briefings and panel discussions, will run throughout the two-day event.
Topics will include:
• The revival of American manufacturing.
• The impact of government regulations on NAFTA’s electrical manufacturing supply chain.
• Realizing cheap and efficient new permanent magnets to meet industry demand.
• Optimizing wireless power transfer technology for increased e-mobility.
• The commercial viability of graphene.
“Year after year, CWIEME Chicago has grown to become the definitive event for the American coil winding, insulation and electrical manufacturing industries, and we can’t wait to welcome both new and returning visitors to the DE Stephens Convention Center for this 2014 edition,” Cennydd says.
