Color STN LCD sets new standards
for size, resolution, and price

CD matches viewing area of 20 to 21-in. CRTs, but with lower power consumption
and a depth of 24.5 mm

The LM10C83 is a 17.7-in. color STN liquid-crystal display with a resolution of
1,024 x 768 and overall dimensions of 450 x 343.2 x 24.5 mm. The display is the
first XGA-resolution color STN LCD. It is designed to overcome the price
barrier that the company believes is keeping LCDs from taking over the desktop
market. The display's combination of large size and low cost is a result of
ongoing improvements in manufacturing efficiency, particularly with the
increase in the size of the mother glass.

The display matches the viewing area of 20 to 21-in. CRTs, yet at a typical
power saving of at least 80%. Other features include a dot pitch of 0.117 x RGB
x 0.351 mm, a contrast ratio of 25:1, a response time of 300 ms, and a
brightness of 150 cd/m2 (CCFT backlight). The display has a power
consumption of 30 W and weighs 2.5 kg. ($1,095–samples available now; prod
qty, 3rd qtr.)
