Communications chipsets offer high performance at low cost

The two-chip PHY1001/2 offer full fax/modem/voice and Caller ID
functions. They also feature HDLC UART/USART, Caller ID receiver, DTMF
receiver, and ADPCM voice compression. Operating at speeds of up to 14,400
bits/s for V.32bis data and V.17 fax, the chipsets will be made compatible
to the new V.Fast standard, once ratified by the CCITT. The PHY1001
comprises the PHY202 front end and the PHY105 digital signal processor.
The PHY1002 has the same front end, but uses the PHY101 for a digital
signal processor. With its associated EPROM and SRAM, the PHY1002 consumes
only 450 mW typ and 80 mW in sleep mode. The PHY1001 is available in two
68-lead PLCCs or in a module format. The PHY1002 comes in two QFPs–one 64
lead and one 80 lead. (The PHY1001/2 cost $40 and $50 ea/1,000,
respectively -available now.) Phylon, Inc., Fremont, CA Sid Bagwe
