Compact logger takes OBD, CAN bus date

Designed for in-vehicle diagnostics and said to be the automotive industry’s smallest high-speed data logger, the DAWN Mini Logger fits within the mating On-board Diagnostics (J1962) connector under a dashboard, snapping onto the OBD connector and acquiring data while hidden from the driver. Acquisition starts and stops when the vehicle ignition is turned on and off.

The stand-alone unit, which includes a cabin-temperature sensor and a three-axis MEMS accelerometer, supports leading automotive protocols including CAN and the J1939 heavy-duty protocol. It has a Windows software user-interface for configuration, acquisition, and display, and data can be acquired at up to 250 samples/s for each parameter, overcoming typical OBD limits.
