Configurable converter gives power, efficiency

The LTC3546 dual-channel synchronous buck regulator can deliver either dual 2-A outputs or 3 A from one channel and 1 A from the other, with up to 96% efficiency. Using a constant-frequency current-mode architecture, it operates from an input voltage range of 2.25 to 5 V and suits single-cell Li-ion/polymer or multicell alkaline/NiCd/NiMH applications.

Each regulator output is adjustable from 0.6 to 5 V and has supply tracking. Separate run and power-good pins enable independent control of each channel. The 4 x 5-mm chip is available in a QFN-28 package and has a switching frequency programmable from 750 kHz to 4 MHz. ($4.41 ea/1,000 available now.)
