The EZ-PD CCG2 Type-C cable controller IC (CYPD2103) provides a complete interface and power delivery port control solution. The device has a Cortex-M0 processor with 32 Kbytes of flash and a USB 3.1 Type-C transceiver and operates from 2.7 to 5.5 V or from the VCONN voltage for the cable. Operating supply current is 7.5 mA, typical.
The USB Type-C standard enables slim designs with the ability to transmit multiple protocols, and 100 W PD. The standard requires an Electronically Marked Cable Assembly (EMCA) that can report the characteristics a cable supports, such as current carrying capability, protocols supported, and vendor identification. The IC comes in 20-ball WLCSP and 14-pin DFN packages with on-die system level ESD protection (8 kV contact discharge, 15 kV air discharge).
