The type-MLSH hermetically sealed aluminum electrolytic capacitor series from Cornell Dubilier is said to be the only capacitor of this type with a glass-to-metal seal that gives the devices extra-long life. These “flat pack” packaged capacitors offer the engineer better temperature stability than you can find elsewhere for such high value devices. They also meet MIL-STD-202 requirements for vibration to 80 g.
The series offers 1,700-, 2,200-, and 3,300-µF values at 50, 40, or 30 Vdc maximum and their Slimpack package measures 1.0 x 1.5 x 0.5 inches. The devices feature rugged construction, targeting the most demanding power applications, and are packaged in a stainless steel case. The manufacturer states that the capacitors can replace three or more axial wet tantalum units in parallel due to its stable capacitance. The MLSH series temperature stability is ±10% over their operating range of −55°C to 125°C.
The capacitor's ESR is approximately 0.108 mΩ, and their ripple current rating is 6.6 A at 120 Hz and 85°C. Dc life is tested to 5,000 H, at rated voltage, at 125°C. The hermetic Slimpack is a spin-off of the non-hermetic Flatpack series that the company has been supplying to military and aerospace customers for more than 20 years. The MLSH series is priced at approximately $180 ea/50 and is available now.
